Katherine Brigance

Katherine Louise Brigance passed from this life Sunday, May 31, 2015 in Maud, Texas. Katie was born March 21, 1938 to Robert Allen Baker and Mildred Lucille (Graybill) Baker in Marion, Ohio. She was 77 years, 2 months, and 10 days old. Katie enjoyed crocheting, gardening, fishing and travelling. She also enjoyed reading and listening to Elvis Presley and Blue Grass music. After retirement she loved attending Blue Grass festivals. “Katydid,” as she was known while serving as the VFW President for the State of Nevada, also continued to serve as a lifetime member of the VFW-Women’s Auxiliary in Arkansas. Katie leaves behind to cherish her memory six children: Sherry Hall (Suzy), Debra and Thomas Johns, Stephen and Sonya Gaines all of Maud, Texas; Greg Gaines of Yerington, Nevada; Jeff and Donna Gaines of Waldron, Arkansas; William (Tony) and LouAnna Gaines of Greenwood, Arkansas. Katie will be missed by seven step-children: George(Pat) Gaines, David and Margit Gaines, Norma Jean Brownson(Jeanne), Lenora Caldwell, Jay and Louella Brigance, Shaney Brigance and Gene and Laura Brigance. Katie will also be missed by one brother, Herbert and Jeanie Baker of Marion, Ohio. Granny Katie leaves behind twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Katie is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Shirley, Sally and Betty; two brothers: Robert (Bud) and David (Butch), her husbands George Gaines and William Brigance; and one step-son: William Arnold. Katie's life celebration will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron, Arkansas. Arrangements and cremation are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons: Eric, Eddie, Taylor, Christopher, Caleb, Will, and Riley Gaines, Kitt and Keith Henry, Thomas and Nicholas Johns, Aaron and Kelly Brownson. Katie's visitation will be 2:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron Arkansas.
